Just a couple of nights ago while walking on my way home and when I was about to approach our street I caught my self smiling. Wondering why, I scan through my memory of what took place that whole day - yes I’ve accomplish some important things, I was able to help few people and I’m about to see my beautiful wife - these are all happy thoughts but these were not the reason that I was smiling. Then I felt the breeze, and the flickering Christmas lights that are on my neighbor’s fence caught my eyes and I smiled. Oh yes this must be the reason why I was smiling. As my wife welcomed me home with a wide smile on my face, I told her how I was feeling. Confused but she too smiled.
It’s Christmas Once Again
It was the Christmas spirit that brought happiness to my soul. The December breeze never fails to make me feel this way. Why on earth do we have this kind of feeling during this time of the year? Probably because of some of the following reasons;
Generous people everywhere: Living in the Philippines I have noticed that most people here are a lot generous during this time of the year compare to other holidays. Aside from the usual smiling faces of Filipinos, we love to give gifts on Christmas and I think it’s the same in other nations. There are groups, both small and large, that go out the streets and feed homeless people using funds gathered throughout the year.
Families are together: Those who work abroad come home to spend time with their loved ones and exchange gifts with each other.
Colorful decorations: Walk around Manila area and you will find colorful Christmas lights everywhere. Christmas lanterns can be found hanging in almost every windows even of those who live in slums.
Cold December Breeze: Though the Philippines is a tropical country, most of the time it’s hot specially in Metro Manila, perhaps maybe because of pollution and climate change (I know nothing about science LOL). And so most of us are waiting patiently for that cold December breeze to give us the chill.
People think of Christ: With all these generosity and coming home to families, I believe it is the spirit of Christ that moves us to do these wonderful things. Christmas above all is about Christ, the Savior and Redeemer of mankind.
The birth of our Savior Jesus Christ is celebrated worldwide with celebrations and decorations at Christmastime.
