Blogging for some is just a hobby while for others it is a source of income. There really is no limit when it comes to blogging, you can blog a range of topics from online marketing and web development to dog grooming and advocacy. Personally what I like about blogs is that you can really connect with the bloggers through commenting on their posts and be their friends on Twitter or Facebook. With all the blogs I’ve read and follow there are things that they have in common - sticky contents.
A sticky content is basically a blog post worth reading, it is created from a mixture of nugget information in an eye-friendly (readable) format that makes readers returning for more. By writing a blog post that sticks you are inviting more readers through RSS and email subscriptions. What makes it better is you will have other bloggers in your niche to share or mention your post to their own blogs. This equates to an increase visibility and added traffic which are crucial to the success of any marketing effort.

Here are 4 tips in making a blog post that sticks.
1. Keep everything simple
Do not use complicated words and mouthful phrases when simple ones will work. You will strike your readers with your clear, readable communication pattern than the scope of your vocabulary. Also avoid writing about complex subjects or processes. Try videos, GIFs, slides or info-graphics instead to better illustrate your point.
2. Write about your passion
“Do what you love and love you do” this goes to blogging as well. The best blogs are written by people who truly LOVE what they do and the topics they are writing about. Bloggers that are forced with topics they don’t really know or care usually don’t last long. They either get bored or worst, end their blogging career. You know your self better than anyone else, focus on your strength and what you know best. Use your expertise and personal experience to provide valuable insight to your audience.
3. Know your readers
Contrary to what you suspect, your blog is not about you, your products or your company. It’s all about your readers. Learn everything you can about your readers; what they like and don’t like, how they communicate so that you can connect with them in a way that will makes sense to them. Write a blog post that answers the question “will my audience find this valuable and at the same time interesting?” If your answer is a NO then do’t write it. You might want to save the idea for later use when you have more time to tailor it to the specific needs of your audience.
4. Blogging is about building relationships
As an online social tool blogging is meant to create relationships between the blogger and the readers. Find creative ways to engage with your readers through surveys, feedback, or contests. When you have readers comment on your posts, be sure to answer back and thank them for spending time commenting on what you just posted. Grab this opportunity to further open the communication door. One of the best ways to get new readers and comments on your blog is to follow other blogs and leave sensible feedback. Or make a more intimate connection by simply exchanging emails with them. I have written a post that talks about the value of commenting on other people’s blog click here.
It’s now time for you and me to start writing sticky blog posts. Review your old posts and make necessary arrangements and rewritings if needed. Remember to keep your post simple by avoiding mouthful of words, writing stuff that you are passionate about will help you achieve just that. Know your readers well and ask your self if what you are about to write will give value to them and lastly, keep in mind that blogging is about building relationship so be friendly by answering on comments left on your blog and following your followers; blog as well. Don’t be afraid to try new things and have fun. I would really love to hear from you too so feel free to leave your thoughts by commenting on this post. Great hub. Yea, I’m trying to create a blog for my novel, but I’m not sure what kind of content I should include. What do you suggest
Awesome mate you are writing a novel. I don’t understand what you mean when you say you need to write a blog for your novel. Are you gonna use your blog to promote your novel? I would love to know more.
Yes, I want to use my blog to promote my novel. I was thinking of using my protagonist to create fan fiction or maybe even just writing posts about my progress or writing tips or something. Just to develop a following of people that will eventually become patrons…
I see
well your plan sounds good I like the thought of creating writing tips kind of post. I think I’ll do the same if I am a novel writer too. hhmm my other thoughts are (1)I think you could use your blog to tell people about your journey or what have you been doing to create the novel. (2)Or perhaps you can blog about other novels as well and insert somewhere in your blog a link to your sales page. (3)If you are not camera shy maybe a vlog will help you as well in putting these ideas to test.
Awesome advice…sounds like a good topic for a hub.
